Home Depot will relaunch its mobile app later this year to fix persistent performance problems that have frustrated customers for years. The refresh comes as the retailer doubles down on technology to remove friction throughout the customer journey.
The mobile app overhaul represents a critical fix for Home Depot’s digital infrastructure. Customer reviews reveal widespread issues with the current app, including frequent crashes, slow loading times, and login failures. One user complained the app has been “ridiculously slow, laggy, crashing” for years.
“It is the front door to the Home Depot, and it powers so many journeys that cross between HomeDepot.com and our app and the physical store,” said Jordan Broggi, executive vice president of customer experience and president of online.
The app serves 20 million active users who help drive Home Depot’s $25 billion annual e-commerce business. The company reported 11% growth in e-commerce for the fourth quarter, making it one of the largest retail platforms online.
Home Depot expects the mobile app refresh to integrate its Magic Apron AI suite, launched in early 2025. The AI tools allow customers to describe projects in plain language and receive personalized recommendations and expert advice. The company partnered with OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and Microsoft to scale these AI-powered shopping experiences.
“Customers want to be helped, and they want to be helped in the right moment by the right tool,” Broggi said. “And if that’s a human, that’s a human, if that’s a chatbot, that’s a chatbot.”
The mobile app improvements support Home Depot’s push to serve professional customers, a key growth driver. The company expanded same-day and next-day delivery to 55% of orders for stocked items, up from 13% a few years ago.
Home Depot reported total sales of $164.7 billion for fiscal 2025, a 3.2% increase. The company projects total sales growth of 2.5% to 4.5% for fiscal 2026 despite ongoing consumer uncertainty in the housing market.
