A new survey from Glossy Research shows that one in four executives expects artificial intelligence to replace jobs within their organizations in the next 12 months. This timeline represents a significant acceleration from previous predictions focused on longer-term displacement.
The findings align with broader industry trends showing immediate AI impact on employment. In the first six months of 2025, tech companies eliminated 77,999 positions directly attributed to AI automation. This translates to 491 people losing jobs to AI every day.
World Economic Forum data supports these expectations. The organization’s 2025 Future of Jobs Report found that 41% of employers worldwide intend to reduce their workforce within five years due to AI automation. Additionally, 40% of employers expect to cut workers where AI can automate tasks.
High-profile executives have issued stark warnings about AI’s employment impact. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei predicted AI could eliminate half of all entry-level white-collar jobs within one to four years. Ford CEO Jim Farley made similar statements at the Aspen Ideas Festival.
The data shows particular impact on entry-level positions. Research indicates 76% of employers hired the same number or fewer entry-level employees in 2025 compared to 2024. Unemployment for college graduates aged 22-27 reached 4.8% as of June 2025, higher than the overall 4.0% rate.
Specific sectors face varying levels of disruption. Bloomberg research shows AI could replace 53% of market research analyst tasks and 67% of sales representative functions. In retail, 65% of cashier and checkout jobs face automation by 2025.
Despite job losses, AI creates new opportunities. Workers with AI skills command salaries up to 56% higher than peers without those capabilities. AI-related job postings rose 25.2% in Q1 2025, with median salaries hitting $157,000.
The acceleration in executive expectations suggests companies are moving beyond planning phases into active implementation of AI-driven workforce changes.
