Unilever reported 4.5% underlying sales growth in Q3 2024, marking the fourth consecutive quarter of positive volume expansion across all business segments.
India led regional performance with 3.4% volume growth, offsetting a 1% price decline that reflected tax benefit comparisons from the prior year. The company posted high-single digit growth in India driven by strong volumes and double-digit increases in liquids, particularly Surf Excel Matic and Rin product lines.
Brazil faced market headwinds as laundry powder demand softened, contributing to slower 3.8% growth across Latin America. The region saw declines in both price and volume due to commodity deflation affecting the powders portfolio, following eight quarters of double-digit growth in Mexico.
“We have delivered a fourth consecutive quarter of positive, improved volume growth, with each of our Business Groups driving higher volumes year-on-year,” said CEO Hein Schumacher. “We are on track to deliver our 2024 outlook and are confident that the steps we are taking will help to transform Unilever over time.”
Power Brands drove company performance with 5.4% underlying sales growth and 4.3% volume increases. These brands now account for more than 75% of total group turnover, with particularly strong results from Dove, Liquid I.V., Comfort and Magnum.
Emerging markets, representing 57% of group turnover, grew underlying sales 2.9% with balanced contributions from volume (1.4%) and price (1.5%). The company maintained its full-year guidance of 3% to 5% underlying sales growth with operating margins expected at least 18%.
Innovation efforts included launching Dove High Potency Body Serums and 3-in-1 face care treatments in Brazil, contributing to double-digit Dove growth in core skin care segments.
