Quick Facts
- Whatnot launched a Shopify integration allowing automatic sync of products, inventory, and orders across platforms
- Beta testing with 30 businesses generated over $10 million in sales across nearly 20 categories
- Live shopping market in the US approaches $20 billion in 2026, with Whatnot holding nearly 60% market share in North America and Europe
Whatnot launched a direct Shopify integration on April 29, giving merchants the ability to automatically sync products, inventory, and orders between the platforms. The move targets Shopify’s vast merchant base as the live shopping market approaches $20 billion in the United States.
The integration eliminates manual inventory tracking across platforms. Product details, pricing, and variants can now be managed within Shopify admin while live shows run through Whatnot. Orders automatically sync back to Shopify when customers purchase.
During beta testing that began late last year, around 30 businesses generated more than $10 million in sales across nearly 20 categories including collectibles, pets, fashion, and food. The integration is now available in the Shopify App Store across nine countries including the U.S., Canada, U.K., and Germany.
More than 70% of Whatnot sellers with Shopify storefronts identified keeping products and inventory synced as a major pain point, according to the company. Gaines Pet, which specializes in all-natural dog treats, increased streaming from 10-12 hours weekly to nearly 30 hours after joining the beta.
“I can now confidently say that Whatnot is our fastest-growing and arguably most powerful sales channel,” said Dewar Gaines, founder of Gaines Pet. The company expects to increase streaming by another 30% next month.
Whatnot holds nearly 60% market share in an estimated $22 billion live shopping market spanning North America and Europe. The platform reported more than $8 billion in live gross merchandise volume in 2025, doubling year over year. Over 500 sellers have achieved $1 million-plus in annualized sales.
“The conversation around live shopping has changed. We’re no longer asking if it will catch on,” said Grant LaFontaine, CEO and co-founder of Whatnot. “Whatnot is proving that live shopping is retail’s new normal.”
The company is valued at $11.5 billion as of October 2025, having raised $975 million in total funding. Revenue reached $358.8 million in 2024, representing 102% year-over-year growth from $178 million in 2023.
By connecting with Shopify’s merchant base, which powers 14% of U.S. e-commerce, Whatnot aims to attract larger brands across more categories. Tom Verrilli, chief product officer, said the company increasingly focuses on sellers “who want or need to move a very large amount of product.”
The integration addresses operational friction for merchants expanding into live commerce. “The appeal for brands is that it’s much easier to go where the livestream shoppers already are rather than trying to build those capabilities into their owned channels,” said Sky Canaves, principal analyst at Emarketer.
