Amazon Moves Prime Day to June for Second Time Since 2015 Launch

Quick Facts

  • Amazon Prime Day 2026 will occur in June across 26 countries, marking only the second June event since 2015
  • The timing shift moves billions in revenue from Q3 to Q2, potentially strengthening Amazon’s near-term financial profile
  • Competitors like Walmart and Target may need to adjust their own July promotional events that traditionally overlap with Prime Day

Amazon confirmed Prime Day 2026 will take place in June, breaking from the traditional July timeframe the company has used since 2015. The announcement came during Amazon’s Q1 2026 earnings call.

CEO Andy Jassy said Prime Day will occur “in most countries in June, which will bring Prime Members even more savings across every category.” The event will span 26 countries including the United States, Canada, Germany, and the United Kingdom.

The June timing marks only the second time Prime Day has moved from July since its 2015 launch. The previous exceptions were 2020, when COVID-19 pushed the event to October, and 2021, when it occurred in June.

The shift carries significant financial implications. Moving the multi-billion dollar event to late June pulls revenue into Amazon’s second quarter rather than the third quarter. Last year’s four-day Prime Day generated record sales, with Adobe Analytics reporting $24.1 billion in U.S. online spending during the July 8-11 event.

Amazon expanded Prime Day from two days to four days in 2025, driving a 35% year-over-year sales increase. The company delivered more than 13 billion items same-day or next-day during the event.

The timing change could disrupt competitors’ promotional strategies. Walmart and Target typically launch competing sales events in July to coincide with Prime Day. Walmart’s 2025 competing event reportedly outperformed Prime Day, with 24% growth in online spending.

Industry analysts view the move as strategic positioning. The June timing allows Amazon to capture early back-to-school spending and potentially catch competitors unprepared for the schedule shift.

Prime members in Australia, Brazil, India, and Japan will shop Prime Day deals later in summer 2026, maintaining some geographic variation in timing.
