Poshmark Plugs 120 Million Listings Into Visual Search App Silvr

Quick Facts

  • Poshmark’s 120 million active listings are now searchable through Silvr, a visual AI shopping app built by two former Google executives.
  • Silvr’s computer vision engine was trained on over 500 million images and connects shoppers to products from more than 1,300 brands and resellers.
  • Poshmark will measure the partnership’s success primarily by new buyer acquisition, cost per acquired buyer, and customer lifetime value.

Poshmark is taking its inventory off-platform. The resale marketplace announced a partnership with Silvr, a visual shopping app, that went live in the U.S. this week across apparel and accessories.

Shoppers using Silvr can upload a screenshot or photograph an outfit from TikTok, a TV show, or real life. The app returns matching products from its retail and resale partner network. Poshmark listings that match appear in results, and users are redirected to Poshmark’s marketplace to complete the purchase.

Who Built Silvr

Silvr was founded by Josh Lanzet and Jason Fahlstrom, both former Google executives. Lanzet spent 13 years at Google leading media and entertainment partnerships. Fahlstrom spent 11 years on Google’s AI strategy. The two spent two years building the platform before launch.

The company raised $3 million in a pre-seed round in February. Angel investors include backers from Netflix, The Walt Disney Company, Google, and LinkedIn. Silvr’s visual engine was trained on more than 500 million images.

Silvr currently searches inventory from around 450 directly onboarded partners, including eBay, The RealReal, Nordstrom, Nike, and Levi’s. Through affiliate network relationships, it can access products from more than 1,300 brands.

Why Poshmark Made the Move

Poshmark’s chief revenue officer, Elizabeth von der Goltz, framed the deal as a customer acquisition play. “We want to be where discovery is happening next, not just where it’s happening now,” she told Glossy. “Our goal is not to move existing demand around. It’s to grow the total pie.”

Poshmark sees Silvr and similar platforms as new routes to consumers before those shoppers have entered a deliberate shopping channel. The company is clear it does not want to become a passive inventory feed for outside tools. It wants outside tools to drive buyers back to its marketplace.

During a small user test the week of the announcement, Poshmark products began appearing among Silvr’s trending items. Poshmark declined to disclose the financial terms of the deal. Silvr earns affiliate revenue from purchases originating through its app, working with networks including CJ, impact.com, Rakuten Advertising, and Awin.

The Technical Challenge

Resale inventory is harder to match visually than retail. Silvr co-founder and CEO Josh Lanzet acknowledged the difficulty. “The computer vision challenge of identifying clothing is very simple when you have very clean catalogs against white backgrounds,” he said. “The challenge with computer vision comes with what is a large majority of Poshmark’s inventory, which is the things that have bad lighting and layering.”

Co-founder and CTO Jason Fahlstrom said the technology is built for exactly that problem. “The value really sits in the long-tail aspect, the one-off resale listing that exists just once and never again,” he said.

Poshmark’s March app redesign, which shifted listings to portrait-format images, was partly intended to make inventory easier for visual-search tools to surface. Von der Goltz said sellers who photograph items with good light and clean backgrounds are better positioned for this environment.

A Crowded Space

The visual search category is getting competitive. Google expanded its Circle to Search feature in February to identify multiple outfit components at once. Pinterest is testing a conversational visual shopping app called Ask Pinterest. Shopify is surfacing merchant products on external AI channels.

More than 60% of Gen Z shoppers now start product searches outside Google or Amazon, according to a 2024 Forbes study. Silvr’s B2B business is also growing. Enterprise contracts now generate slightly more revenue than its consumer app, Lanzet said. Publishers are seeking ways to offset declining search traffic, which the Reuters Institute projects will fall 43% over the next three years.

Poshmark CEO Manish Chandra said the company is rebuilding around AI. “We think AI is really the future of resale, and we are leaning heavily into it,” Chandra said.
