Depop and Spotify Team Up to Link Secondhand Fashion with Music Discovery

Quick Facts

  • Depop and Spotify launched a co-branded campaign featuring six artist-curated shops and a shared playlist, anchored by a two-day Los Angeles pop-up in August 2026.
  • Depop generated roughly $1 billion in gross merchandise sales in 2025, with nearly 60% year-over-year growth in the U.S., and counts more than 90% of its users under age 26.
  • The campaign is Depop’s first major marketing push since eBay completed its $1.2 billion acquisition of the platform on July 30, 2026.

Depop and Spotify announced a partnership in August 2026 that connects secondhand fashion with music discovery through artist-curated storefronts, a co-branded playlist, and a live activation in Los Angeles.

Six artists participated in the launch: Eve, Amira Elfeky, Estevie, Frost Children, House of Protection, and Lily Meola. Each selected pieces from their own wardrobes for sale on Depop while their music appeared on a shared Spotify playlist. All six have Gen Z audiences and millions of streams on the platform.

The two-day event ran August 13 and 14 at the Hollywood Premiere Motel on Hollywood Boulevard. The venue featured live performances, themed closets tied to different music scenes, and curated fashion edits from Depop sellers.

The cross-platform structure allows discovery to flow both directions. A Spotify listener can find an artist through the playlist and then browse that artist’s wardrobe on Depop. A shopper drawn to a specific piece of clothing can trace it back to the artist and their music.

Steve Dool, Senior Director of Brand and Creative at Depop, said: “Fashion and music have always gone hand in hand, with communities shaping what’s next through their individual style and taste.”

Matt Luhks, Senior Director of Global Marketing at Spotify, said: “We hope to give fans a deeper look at the styles and sounds that shape their perspective as artists.”

The campaign arrives at a pivotal moment for Depop. eBay completed its $1.2 billion cash acquisition of the platform on July 30, 2026. Etsy had originally bought Depop in 2021 for $1.6 billion before selling it. Depop will retain its name, brand identity, and platform culture under eBay ownership.

Depop CEO Peter Semple called joining eBay “an exciting new chapter,” pointing to the company’s track record in recommerce. The Spotify partnership is the first major marketing campaign the company has run since the deal closed.

Depop reported approximately $1 billion in gross merchandise sales in 2025. The platform has 7 million active buyers, more than 3 million active sellers, and roughly 43.5 million registered users. More than 90% of its user base is under age 26. The company estimates its community has given more than 136 million items a second life since its founding.

Spotify reaches 777 million users across 184 markets, including 300 million paid subscribers, with a catalog of 100 million tracks.

The broader market context supports the strategy. ThredUp’s 2026 Resale Report projects the global secondhand apparel market will reach $393 billion by 2030, growing twice as fast as the broader apparel market. Fashion resale is currently expanding at nearly three times the rate of the global apparel market overall.

For Depop, aligning with a platform that reaches hundreds of millions of young listeners is a direct play for its core demographic. For Spotify, the partnership extends artist storytelling beyond audio into personal style and commerce.
