Dollar General will introduce a new store format in 2026 designed to encourage browsing and treasure hunting by customers, CEO Todd Vasos announced during the company’s Q4 2025 earnings call Thursday.
The retailer will also pilot a subscription program as part of its loyalty efforts. These initiatives come as Dollar General reported strong quarterly results that beat analyst expectations across all metrics.
The new store format creates a more open and inviting layout in response to customer feedback. COO Emily Taylor said the company reimagined its traditional store format by creating a new layout based on what customers want from their shopping trips.
Dollar General tested the format in a portion of its 2025 remodel projects. Vasos said the format generated incremental sales lift and outperformed traditional remodels. The new layouts also resulted in lower manager turnover.
The retailer reported Q4 2025 net sales of $10.9 billion, up 5.9% year over year. Same-store sales jumped 4.3%, and operating profit grew 106.1% to $606.3 million. Quarterly earnings of $1.93 per share beat the analyst consensus estimate of $1.65 per share.
For full fiscal year 2025, net sales grew 5.2% to $42.7 billion with profit reaching $1.51 billion. The company expects 2026 net sales growth between 3.7% and 4.2%, with same-store sales projected to grow 2.2% to 2.7%.
Dollar General already operates comprehensive loyalty programs through myDG and DG Cash Back. The DG app has more than 7 million monthly active users, and the company maintains more than 100 million marketable customer profiles.
The subscription program details remain limited. The company partnered with Ibotta Performance Network for its DG Cash Back program, which enables shoppers to earn cash back on eligible purchases in their DG Wallet.
Vasos noted that 70% of stores now meet expectations, improving from previous quarters. For the fourth consecutive quarter, Dollar General posted positive comparable sales across consumables, seasonal, home, and apparel categories.
The retailer continues focusing on four strategic growth pillars: enhancing customer experience, elevating brand presence, driving enterprise-wide efficiencies, and extending market reach. These initiatives target core consumers who remain financially strained but resourceful, according to Vasos.
