Quick Facts
- Meta launches direct product tagging in Instagram Reels, allowing creators to link up to 30 products per video
- New affiliate partnerships with Amazon, eBay, Temu, and Mercado Libre expand monetization options for creators
- Meta takes no commission from sales, with creator rates ranging from 2% to 8% plus a 1% platform bonus
Meta announced direct product tagging in Instagram Reels at Shoptalk Spring 2026, marking what executives call the end of the link-in-bio era. Creators can now drop products from business catalogs or affiliate links directly into their videos.
The feature allows creators to tag up to 30 products in a single Reel. Products appear as clickable floating bubbles embedded within content, eliminating the need for external link-in-bio services or comment workarounds.
“For creators, when it comes to highlighting products, this means that the era of link in bio is finally over,” said Nicola Mendelsohn, head of global business group at Meta. “We’re basically shrinking the distance between discovering and purchase and putting creators right to the center of the journey.”
Affiliate Program Expansion
Meta is expanding its Facebook Affiliate Partnership program to include Amazon, eBay, and Temu in the US. Mercado Libre will serve Brazil and Mexico. The program enables creators to connect their affiliate accounts directly to Facebook for seamless product tagging.
Commission rates range from 2% for low-margin categories to 8% for high-margin items. Meta adds a 1% platform bonus for top-performing creators and takes no commission from sales.
“At this time, Meta is not taking a commission of sales from these experiences,” said Karin Tracy, group lead of retail and e-commerce at Meta. “The tool was developed for seamless integration and the ability for creators to monetize more easily.”
Market Impact
The move directly challenges TikTok Shop’s closed-loop commerce model. Instagram Shopping generated $37.2 billion in 2024, demonstrating the platform’s commerce potential.
Meta paid creators nearly $3 billion in 2025, a 35% year-over-year increase. More than half of consumers say shopping decisions are influenced by creators, according to a Meta-commissioned Kantar study.
Creators need public accounts with over 1,000 followers and must be 18 or older to access product tagging. The feature launches in 22 countries this spring.
