Marriott International is turning its hotel rooms into retail showrooms. On May 19, 2026, the company launched Design Shop through its Marriott Bonvoy Boutiques platform, offering furniture, decor, and art pulled directly from W Hotels and Westin Hotels and Resorts properties.

The launch includes more than 75 pieces that are identical or similar to items guests encounter in hotel rooms. The W Hotels Living collection was created with architecture and design studio Rockwell Group and draws from the redesigned W New York Union Square, which underwent a $100 million renovation completed in 2025.

Prices reflect the premium positioning. A custom velvet headboard and platform bed runs $3,150 to $4,650. An emerald vegan leather bench is $2,890. A statement floral rug starts at $906. The Westin collection offers an oak nightstand for $1,500 and a wool-covered down throw pillow for $518. A wall sconce from the W Hotel Union Square retails for $210.

The Strategy Behind the Shelves

Marriott Chief Customer Officer Peggy Roe framed the expansion as an extension of the hospitality experience. “Hospitality doesn’t end at check-out anymore,” Roe said. “Design Shop reflects how we’re expanding the role of our hotels and destinations from places you stay to sources of inspiration you choose to live with.”

Roe pointed to a key retail advantage hotels hold over traditional stores. “If you compare it to any retailer, no one’s living in the Bloomingdale’s right down the street and staying for 24 hours, but in our rooms, you actually get to test and play with these things,” she said.

This logic traces back to 1999, when Westin, then owned by Starwood Hotels and Resorts, began selling its Heavenly Bed mattress to consumers via a hotline. By 2024, Westin had sold more than 500,000 units. Marriott acquired Starwood in 2016.

Loyalty Program as the Engine

Design Shop is built around Bonvoy engagement. Customers earn 6X bonus points when spending at participating Marriott Bonvoy Boutiques. Marriott has found that when Bonvoy members engage with non-hotel activities through the program, they are more likely to book hotel stays.

The loyalty program closed 2025 with 271 million members. Member stays accounted for 75% of room nights in the U.S. and Canada and 68% globally that year. The hotel industry overall generated $870 billion in revenue in 2025, with projections topping $940 billion in 2026.

What Comes Next

Marriott is expanding the Design Shop lineup throughout 2026. A French Riviera-inspired collection drops in June 2026, featuring serving trays, platters, linens, vases, and wine goblets. A JW Marriott Living collection tied to the JW Marriott Hotel Tokyo is planned for fall 2026.

Retail distribution could extend beyond Marriott’s own platform. The company already partners with Pottery Barn, which carries the Westin Heavenly Bed mattress. Roe said the company could place the W Union Square design line in a department store. “We could take the W Union Square design and showcase it in a department store if we wanted to,” she said.
